Intentions Over Resolutions
by Jeff Cannon • New York City

This year, let your resolutions be your intentions not your goals.

Do not waste energy in 2017 with the knowledge that at some point you will be disappointed.

Instead, create the idea of how you want to approach whatever it is you want to do. That way, no matter what you want to achieve it will be accomplished with the right state of mind.

The difference between goals and intentions are simple. Goals are hard-line, hard to reach, materialistic marks, set in a moment of optimism. Intentions are the way in which you want to reach your goals.

Set your goals in terms of how to live your life. Intentions last forever to make you a better person. When looking back at the end of the year, how do you want to see all that you have done?  Do you want to see your actions as driven by anger and vindictiveness, or as a caring person with empathy and love? Do you want to see your decision made based on spite and arrogance, or based on compassion and humility?

You can make a million dollars either way, but which one will make you happier in the end? Which one will provide you with the kinship and community we all yearn for?

The question is a simple one. So too should be your answer.

If in doubt, simply step away from the everyday angst and anxiety you used to carry with you. Reach inside yourself and you will find that the only real question is will you find the calm within you to make the right decision?

Have a wonderful new year and just remind yourself to make good choices in 2017. The rest will sort itself out.

Be well. Oh, and what are your intentions for 2017?
In the end, it is your life. It's time to live it your way.
