PICK YOUR YOGA PRACTICE: Exploring and Understanding Different Types of YogaPICK YOUR YOGA PRACTICE: Exploring and Understanding Different Types of Yoga
by Megan McCrary
New World Library
www.newworldlibrary.com

Millions practice yoga, but what kind is best? Kripalu, Ashtanga, Bikram, Iyengar? Hot room, flowing or held postures, with or without meditation and chanting? There are literally dozens of yoga styles to choose from. Some are overtly spiritual and others are purely physical. Some are rigid and demanding, while others are gentle and adaptable.

Author and yoga teacher, Meagan McCrary has crafted an encyclopedia of yoga styles that digs deeper than the physical description of the practices to include everything from a style’s philosophical foundation and teaching methodology to what-to-expect and health benefits. Pick Your Yoga Practice includes eight core styles of yoga and and ten additional systems described in the “Best of the Rest” chapter. Each chapter opens with background information regarding the creation and evolution of each system presented, followed by a general overview of what to expect in class based on that style of yoga. The chapters are further broken down according to the main aspects and concepts of each method, to provide a clear and complete picture of that particular style of yoga. This book also includes resources for finding teachers and classes in the various styles.

WHEN THE HORSES WHISPER: The Wisdom of Wise and Sentient BeingsWHEN THE HORSES WHISPER: The Wisdom of Wise and Sentient Beings
by Rosalyn W. Berne
Rainbow Ridge Books

Today it seems it is the rare person who takes the time and care necessary to communicate on a personal level. Let’s face it, email, texting, and Facebook have hijacked our relationships, turning them into abbreviated and impersonal correspondences. Most of which leave us—me, at least— feeling disconnected and at times, put off. But Dr. Rosalyn W. Berne has learned the secret to a flourishing, reciprocal relationship: Listening.

In her most recent book, When the Horses Whisper, Dr. Berne most definitely listens. For those who have known the love, loyalty, and companionship of a horse, these fifteen individuals and their stories will undoubtedly strike a chord. But one need not have known a horse personally to recognize the profundity of these communications. Although the author’s focus, for the purpose of this book, is on horses and their undeniable ability to communicate their individual desires, betrayals, pain, fears, and happiness, it would be remiss of us to think this ability rests with horses alone.

The beautiful and stoic horses in this book are a reminder to all of us that non-human animals of all species have a voice. It is not due to any inferiority on their part that far-too-many human animals simply have not learned to, or do not care to listen.

MORE STRAIGHT TALK: Answers to Questions Young People Ask About AlcoholTHE LAPIS KEY: Adventures of Ernie and Daisy
by D.F. Morrison
www.friesenpress.com

The Lapis Key is a tale of intrigue and adventure, enhanced by the beauty of the natural world and all her inhabitants. It is a book where imagination and creativity run wild, taking the reader on a journey through Fairyland, which is a reality far from the one we have come to know. It is there that butterflies serve as protectors and transporters, bees make magical wine nectars, and chipmunks play games. Any child would delight in the mysticism and spirit of such a place. And there are no better lessons that come from adventure than making strong connections to nature, friendship, teamwork, and believing in oneself, which all await in the magical world of Fairyland.
