Another Leap Forward in Dental Healing: Full Arch Implants
by Jeffrey Etess, DMD, NMD, IBDM

Maintaining the teeth that you were born with should always be the focus of the patient and the dentist. Unfortunately, sometimes teeth are so damaged that extractions are the only viable option.

In times past, dentures were the only choice for patients with which to replace their smile. Unknown to most patients, dentures only provide less than 10% of the biting efficiency of natural teeth. Even more troubling, dentures move around in the mouth and must be removed consistently to be cleaned. Although extraction and replacement of failing teeth is more common than you would imagine, no longer are dentures the only option! Dr. Jeffrey Etess has been a New York pioneer in the field of full mouth dental implants for over 22 years.

Full arch implant surgery is a dental procedure that involves the replacement of all the teeth in either the upper or lower jaw with dental implants. This procedure is also commonly known as the All-on-X implant procedure.

During the full arch implant surgery, Dr. Etess places four or more dental implants into the jawbone, which act as the foundation for a new set of prosthetic teeth. These dental implants are made of titanium alloy, zirconium, or a hybrid of titanium & zirconium. The type of implant used is based on the needs and desire of the patient to choose the most biocompatible material that fuses with the jawbone to create a secure and stable foundation for the natural appearing and functioning prosthetic teeth.

The full arch implant surgery typically involves a series of steps. First, Dr. Etess performs a comprehensive examination to determine if the patient is a candidate for the procedure. This includes a thorough evaluation of the patient’s dental and medical history, as well as traditional X-rays, CT scans, and the implementation of a 3D intraoral photo scanner which will assess the condition of the existing jawbone.

Next, Dr. Etess creates a customized treatment plan based on the patient’s individual needs and goals. Most typically, this involves the use of computer-guided technology to plan the precise placement of the dental implants and to design an ideal set of prosthetic teeth.

While the majority of cases are performed by Dr. Etess using a local anesthetic to numb the area, some patients prefer or require sedation which is provided by an anesthesiologist. This allows those patients to feel less anxious, more comfortable and often to sleep during the procedure. The dental implants are then placed into the jawbone, and a temporary set of prosthetic teeth are attached to them the very SAME DAY.

Full arch implant surgery is a highly effective and long-lasting solution for patients who have lost most or all of their teeth. With proper care and maintenance, dental implants can last for many decades and provide patients with a natural-looking and functional set of teeth that can significantly improve their quality of life.

BEWARE, not all implant therapy is the same! To save money, and increase profits, some offices place cheap implants of lower quality, and fabricate the prosthetic teeth out of inexpensive breakable material. You deserve the best, uncompromised care; you and your smile are worth it! Dr. Etess prides himself on bringing you top notch, unmatched care. We work toward one standard, the HIGHEST standard.
